Multiple Piano Festival--November 21st, 2009 at Vance Brand Auditorium, Longmont

See Video: High Speed (broadband connection) Low Speed (dial-up)

The Multiple Piano Festival provides an opportunity for piano students to participate in a large ensemble event. Since 1985, this annual event has consisted of approximately 250 students playing duet repertoire on twelve grand pianos. A repertoire list is distributed at the May meeting and MPF committee members perform samples of each

programmed duet. Each student auditions with partners and will be required to play their piece(s) at pre-specified metronome speeds. Then students must attend several rehearsals where they work with a conductor.

Achievement Day--May 9, 2009, at the College of Music, University of Colorado

BAMTA sponsors this special event at the University of Colorado each spring for students of BAMTA teachers. This wide-spectrum event promotes broad musicianship - emphasizing skills that support music as a lifetime pursuit.

Achievement Day allows students to participate at levels Preparatory through Level 12. Their participation in Achievement Day begins with two evaluated performances of selections from classical repertoire. One of the required selections is to be performed by memory. If a student chooses to play more than the two required pieces, they can include popular, jazz, folk, or sacred music.

Beyond the two required performances, there are more than 22 student-selectable activities relating to Achievement Day, providing choices to interest, motivate, and challenge each music student. Of the selectable activities, students choose at least 2 or as many as 5 (a "Super Achiever" category). Students can choose to take written tests, demonstrate musical skills, and/or prepare (in advance) a special project.

Written Tests are offered in music theory, terms & signs, music history, and ear training. Performance Skills may include additional pieces, duets, sight reading, improvisation, scales, chords, and arpeggios. Special Projects may include compositions, reports on composers, and art or construction projects related to music.
